What is a Request for Proposal?

A Request For Proposal (RFP) is a formal, written solicitation document used for seeking competition and obtaining offers for more complex services or a combination of goods and services. This document contains specifications, general information on submitting proposals, terms and conditions and any additional information the supplier may need to provide a proposal response. The RFP must identify all evaluation criteria on which the evaluation will be based.

The RFP process is utilized when North Carolina law requires a competitive bid and areas other than cost are to be considered. Through a thorough process, the RFP assists the university in making an informed decision.
