Can I personally purchase an asset that is no longer used by my department?

As is required per State Regulations, all assets, capital or non-capital, purchased by a State entity, must be disposed of through the University Surplus Property Office; they cannot simply be thrown away!  Due to the size of our University, the State has authorized and allowed NC State University to create its own internal surplus group to handle these disposals. The NC State Surplus Group is administered by Surplus Property Services, part of Procurement & Business Services.

By General Statute 143.64.01 of the State of North Carolina, University departments, other state and federal government agencies, and nonprofit organizations (in that order) have priority when acquiring surplus property. Specific procedures can be found on the Surplus Property Services website.

All items not sold to the above listed entities are offered to the public during Retail Surplus Store sales
